An Austin Police Department officer has been indicted for the fatal shooting of Rajan Moonesinghe, who was holding a gun on his own porch. Responding to a 911 call, officers encountered Moonesinghe, who had just returned from a family trip and believed someone had broken into his home. Despite being ordered to drop the weapon, Moonesinghe was shot by Officer Daniel Sanchez. The officer has been charged with one count of deadly conduct, while Moonesinghe's family is calling for additional charges. The district attorney criticized the police chief's statement, emphasizing the importance of the rule of law.
