"Small Plane Crashes Off Quonset Point: 2 Aboard Rescued"
A small aircraft, identified as a single-engine Piper PA-24, crashed into Narragansett Bay near Quonset State Airport after experiencing engine trouble on its return flight, with two people on board. The occupants were able to swim to a nearby buoy and were rescued by the DEM marine unit before being transported to Rhode Island Hospital for hypothermia and minor injuries. Coast Guard units from the Castle Hill and Cape Cod stations assisted in the rescue efforts.
