Nathan Smith, known as DJ Young Slade, the 27-year-old son of rapper Lil Jon, died from an accidental drowning in a Georgia pond after ingesting psilocybin mushrooms. He was reported missing from Milton on Feb. 3 and was later found; an autopsy found drowning in the setting of psilocybin use with blood testing positive for the hallucinogen. Lil Jon issued a tribute praising his son, who was a music producer, artist and NYU graduate.

$8.5M Mushroom Operation Uncovered in Burlington Home, Man Arrested

A 21-year-old man from Burlington, Connecticut, named Weston Soule, has been arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell narcotics and operating a drug factory after police discovered a clandestine psilocybin mushroom growing operation at his residence. Detectives found a large mushroom growing operation in a detached garage on the property, containing psilocybin mushrooms with an estimated street value of $8.5 million. Soule claimed that the mushrooms he was growing were not illegal, but later admitted that they were psilocybin, a Schedule 1 controlled substance. He is currently held on a $250,000 bond.

"Las Vegas Duo Busted for Massive Magic Mushroom Sale, Police Report"

Two Las Vegas men, Kyle Shurtz and Justin Slade, were arrested on drug charges after attempting to sell 100 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms. Shurtz had discussed the sale with an undercover officer, and they agreed to meet at a business in a commercial complex. Shurtz arrived with the mushrooms packaged in bags, but when the officer refused to meet Slade, Shurtz was taken into custody. Detectives found Slade inside a warehouse with more mushrooms and cash. The total weight of the mushrooms seized was about 106 pounds. Both men are scheduled to appear in court.
