Bay Area Police Officers Face Civil Rights Charges in FBI Probe
Three police officers from the Antioch and Pittsburg Police Departments in California have been charged with civil rights violations as part of an FBI investigation. The officers are accused of using excessive force, including dog bites and a less lethal launcher, and taking pictures and videos for personal use. They allegedly bragged about their actions and tried to conceal them by falsifying police reports. The indictment also includes allegations of officers referring to people as gorillas and making threats. In addition to the civil rights charges, one officer is accused of conspiracy to distribute steroids, and another officer faces charges related to interference with a wiretap investigation and illegal seizure of a telephone. The Antioch Police Department expressed disappointment and emphasized the importance of holding officers accountable.
