After the initial six months, users must pay $1.99 per month to continue using the Photo Mode. The standard Echo Show 8 does not have access to this feature. While some may find the subscription model for a digital photo frame unappealing, it offers an alternative to the rotating homescreen ads and promotions that are present on the standard Echo Show.
