Dragon's Dogma 2: Patch Analysis, Combat Concerns, and Community Polarization
The first patch for Dragon's Dogma 2 introduces a toggle to enable or disable ray traced global illumination, offering a substantial performance boost when disabled, but with noticeable visual cutbacks. However, the 30fps cap does not respect inconsistent frame-pacing, and the game still suffers from ambient occlusion issues on PS5 and Series S. While the patch brings some improvements, key issues such as the checkerboard reconstruction technique and performance problems in densely-populated areas persist, leaving room for further patches to address these issues and provide a truly polished version of the game.
