Maine mass shooter Robert Card, who killed 18 people in a mass shooting, had been exhibiting erratic behavior and claiming to hear voices calling him a "pedophile" in the months leading up to the attack. His family and the Maine National Guard had expressed concerns about his mental health and potential for violence. Card's deteriorating mental state coincided with the use of high-powered hearing aids, and he had recently acquired multiple firearms. Authorities attempted a welfare check but were unable to make contact with Card. The shooting occurred six weeks later, and Card was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a two-day manhunt.
