Denver Officials Urging Migrants to Leave Due to Resource Shortage
A Denver official was recorded encouraging newly arrived migrants to consider leaving for cities like New York City or Chicago due to the lack of resources in Denver, defending the comments as part of the city's strategy for addressing the influx of new residents. The official stated that Denver has "received too many migrants" and has run out of resources, leading to the city heavily encouraging onward travel since February and limiting the number of days migrants can stay in shelters. The city has received nearly 500 buses of migrants from Texas and has welcomed more than 40,000 newcomers in the last two years, with about 20,000 people moving on from the city. Both New York City and Chicago are also contending with an influx of migrants, and Denver regularly communicates with them to determine cities where migrants may have existing networks or better opportunities for work and housing.
