Multiple Zoos Welcome Adorable New Giraffe Calves
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo welcomed a female giraffe calf, the fifth in the current giraffe barn. The calf was born to first-time mom Zola and father Jawara. Despite a normal delivery, Zola did not show the expected level of maternal care, leading to veterinary and animal care teams to intervene and provide around-the-clock care. The calf received a plasma transfusion from Jawara's previously banked plasma and is being transitioned to a bottle. The zoo is cautiously optimistic about the calf's survival.
