Climate activist Greta Thunberg, along with four other protesters, is on trial in London for blocking the entrance to an oil and gas industry conference last year. The trial, which began at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, centers on a charge of breaching a section of the Public Order Act. Thunberg and other climate activists have accused fossil fuel companies of hindering the global transition to renewables for profit, and they also oppose the U.K. government’s approval of oil drilling in the North Sea. If convicted, the protesters could face fines of up to 2,500 pounds ($3,170).
