NJ wildfire: Firefighters make progress as smoke affects Garden State Parkway.
Conditions are improving as firefighters continue to battle the Bass River State Forest wildfire in New Jersey, but the lack of rainfall is still creating challenges. Smoke from the fire has led to air quality alerts in New Jersey and Delaware, and the Garden State Parkway was closed for more than four hours. The fire has spread to 5,000 acres since it ignited on Wednesday night near Allen Road. Firefighters are rotating crews to keep them hydrated in the heat.
