Studio Ghibli's Future Secured: Nippon TV Acquires the Iconic Studio
Japanese TV station Nippon Television is acquiring a controlling stake in Studio Ghibli, the renowned animation studio co-founded by Hayao Miyazaki. With no clear successor in sight, the move aims to ensure a smooth transition of leadership as Miyazaki and co-founder Suzuki Toshio approach retirement. Nippon's investment will allow them to manage Ghibli's future while preserving the studio's creative process and brand value. The change in leadership will take effect in October, and Nippon and Ghibli have previously collaborated on various projects. Miyazaki's latest film, "The Boy and the Heron," is set for release, but the director has shown signs of potentially coming out of retirement for future projects.
