Activision has implemented a new anti-cheat system in Call of Duty that automatically closes the game for players attempting to use aim assist with a mouse and keyboard, as well as targeting and banning third-party devices that provide unfair advantages. The company aims to expand detection to include wallhacks in the future.
Ubisoft's MouseTrap system, introduced in Rainbow Six Siege, has successfully reduced the number of players using mouse and keyboard on consoles by 78%. Instead of banning these players, Ubisoft chose to penalize them by adding extra input latency. The goal was to give them a chance to change their behavior and play fairly, and it seems to have worked, with many users returning to their controllers or switching to PC after being penalized. Modders have created an early access mod that allows players to bypass the need for a VR headset to play Half-Life: Alyx, Valve's PC VR-exclusive game, using a mouse and keyboard instead. While the game's tactile, hand-based interactivity is lost, the mod is an easy drag-and-drop file affair and allows players who can't play in VR for accessibility reasons or can't justify buying a pricey VR headset to play the game on. The mod team is working to implement more tweaks to make it feel more like a standard PC FPS.
