"Highlights of the 61st Merrie Monarch Hula Festival"
Kaʻōnohikaumakaakeawe Kananiokeakua Holokai Lopes was crowned Miss Aloha Hula 2024 after a night of impressive hula performances, competing against 13 contestants in Hilo. Coming from a family of previous winners, Lopes danced for halau Ka Lā ʻŌnohi Mai O Haʻehaʻe and had to memorize an oli or chant as part of the competition, showcasing the years of preparation required for this prestigious title at the Merrie Monarch Festival.
