MetroHealth System in Cleveland is closing six outpatient centers to improve operational efficiency and address financial challenges caused by rising charity care costs, increased operating losses, and potential future funding cuts, while planning to expand other services and facilities.
Neighbors in Cleveland's Clark-Fulton neighborhood are frustrated with a vacant apartment building owned by MetroHealth's charity, CCH Development Corporation, which has become a hub for crime and other issues. Despite being purchased in 2019 as part of a revitalization project, no action has been taken. MetroHealth plans to demolish the property and clean the area in spring 2024, citing difficulties in securing funding for new construction. The buildings may eventually be repurposed for housing, but no concrete plans have been made.
A group of about 10 people burst through the doors of a Cleveland MetroHealth facility just hours after a mass shooting, engaging in a fight and assaulting a man. MetroHealth Police intervened, escorting the group out of the hospital without further incident. The group did not gain access to the treatment area, and no arrests were made. The incident is not believed to be related to the weekend's shootings.
