Frederick County Sheriff Takes Leave of Absence During Federal Trial.
Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins pleaded not guilty to five federal charges related to an alleged machine gun scheme and will take a leave of absence effective Friday. Jenkins is accused of falsifying documents on the sheriff's letterhead to acquire machine guns for profit and political support. Chief Deputy Col. David Benjamin will assume authority from Jenkins. If convicted on all charges, Jenkins faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
