Apple is rumored to launch a new, more affordable MacBook in the next 6-9 months, featuring an iPhone chip and a 13-inch display, signaling a shift in its Mac strategy to offer more options similar to the iPad lineup, potentially expanding its market reach.
Apple is set to update its Mac lineup with M4 chips starting in late 2024, focusing on enhancing artificial intelligence capabilities. The M4 chips will be used across various Mac models, with different variations for different tiers, and are expected to support up to 512GB Unified Memory. Built on a 3-nanometer process, the M4 chips will feature an improved Neural Engine with increased cores for AI tasks, and will likely be produced by TSMC.
Apple is set to release its first M4-powered Macs later this year, with a focus on artificial intelligence. The M4 family of chips will include an entry-level variant and at least two higher-performance versions, with plans to update every Mac model. The transition to M4 will start with a new iMac, a lower-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, and a refreshed Mac mini. Apple also plans to follow up with more M4 Macs throughout 2025, including updates to the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro. The M4 chips are designed to highlight AI processing capabilities and their integration with the next version of macOS.
