Lithium-ion battery safety measures implemented in NYC after fatal fire.
Michael Thornton, a Bronx man recovering from heart surgery, died in a fire caused by lithium-ion batteries in his apartment building. Several batteries were found in the hallway, but family members do not believe Thornton had e-bikes. Thornton was a family man and retired IBM employee who loved playing the piano. He was at least the third New Yorker to be killed in a lithium-ion battery fire this year.
