Mildred García: First Latina Chancellor of California State University
Mildred García, a Puerto Rican and recognized higher education leader, has been selected as the first Latina chancellor of the California State University (CSU) system, the largest four-year university system in the United States. With over 457,000 students enrolled and nearly 130,000 annual graduates, CSU is known for its diversity. García, who has previously served as president of Cal State Fullerton and CSU Dominguez Hills, is credited with improving graduation rates and increasing retention rates for underrepresented students. She will begin her tenure as chancellor in October, focusing on student achievement, equity, and California's economic prosperity.
