Austin Expands Housing Options with RVs and Tiny Homes
The Austin City Council has approved changes to land rules that would allow people to live in RVs or tiny homes in more areas across the city. The proposed rule would enable residents to hook up utilities to these dwellings, making them livable without being restricted to mobile home parks or designated areas. The move is part of the city's efforts to address the lack of affordable housing options, particularly for working-class families. Council Member Leslie Pool, who led the initiative, emphasized the need to make it easier for families to find housing options and increase rental opportunities. The changes to land use rules are expected to be finalized by November 30.
