Johns Hopkins Hospital Found Liable for $211 Million in 'Take Care of Maya' Lawsuit
Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital has been found liable for all civil claims in the "Take Care of Maya" trial, with a preliminary award of $211,451,174 to the Kowalski family. The claims include false imprisonment, battery, fraudulent billing, emotional distress, and wrongful death. The lawsuit involved allegations regarding the hospital's treatment of Maya Kowalski, who was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and received ketamine infusion treatments. The hospital reported Beata Kowalski to the child abuse hotline and prevented the family from leaving with Maya. The hospital plans to appeal the verdict, stating that they followed Florida's mandatory reporting law.
