Rebuilding Hope: Lahaina's Resilience Shines Through Wildfire Tragedy
Displaced residents of Maui, still recovering from devastating wildfires, are finding support and kokua (help) from their community and beyond during the holiday season. Donations from organizations like The People's Fund, United Way, and the Hawai'i Community Foundation, as well as a $5 million donation from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, are providing financial assistance for rebuilding. Nonprofit Project Vision Hawaii is helping families secure housing, while volunteers have sewn and distributed over 900 Christmas stockings for children affected by the fires. Music and traditional Maui hula songs are also bringing hope and healing to the community as they navigate this tragedy together.
