AI chatbots in education: Embraced or banned?
Khan Lab School in California has welcomed a new AI chatbot tutor called Khanmigo, developed in partnership with OpenAI, into its classrooms. The chatbot is designed to act as a tutor, rather than solve problems for students, and has stronger moderation filters than ChatGPT. However, some schools have banned the use of chatbots, citing concerns over inaccurate information, cheating and shortcuts. Khanmigo will be rolled out to select schools later this month, but experts have questioned its usefulness outside of the privileged environment of Silicon Valley.
