Dune Rover Turns a Kei Truck Into a Tiny Home on Wheels
Direct Cars’ Dune Rover (also called Katana Mini) converts a Daihatsu Hijet kei truck into a compact motorhome with a living-dining area whose two couches fold into a double bed plus an upper bunk, a kitchenette with sink, microwave, 35L fridge, A/C, TV and USBs, and optional 100W solar powered by a 100Ah lithium battery (upgradable). The setup can sleep up to four in theory, though the Hijet’s two-seat cabin is a limitation; pricing starts around ¥5.98M (~$38k) and can rise to ¥7.18M (~$45.8k) with options. An urban-focused PLAT variant is also offered, both retaining the Hijet’s 660cc engine with rear-or-4WD options.
