Evergy Reaches Settlement on Rate Increase Proposal with KCC in Kansas

Evergy has reached an agreement with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) on a rate increase proposal, resulting in a 4.05% increase for Evergy Kansas Central customers and a 4.75% decrease for Evergy Kansas Metro customers. The settlement represents a net increase of $74 million for the former and a net decrease of $32.9 million for the latter. Evergy initially requested a higher rate hike, but the KCC staff determined that a lower increase and a decrease were more appropriate. The agreement allows Evergy to recover investments in improving the electric grid while maintaining regional rate competitiveness.

"Evergy customers face potential rate hike due to new Kansas Panasonic plant"

Evergy, a power company in Kansas, may request additional rate increases to cover the infrastructure and energy needed to serve the massive Panasonic battery plant development in De Soto. The plant is expected to have the power usage of a small city and will require upgrades to substations and transmission lines. Evergy states that the investment related to Panasonic will support expected growth and benefit all customers in the long term. The rates for serving Panasonic have not yet been set and must be approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission. State regulators are already considering a pending request by Evergy to raise rates.
