Ethan Coen explained that the Coen Brothers haven't directed together since 2018 due to burnout, busy schedules, and being out of sync, but there's no formal split, and they may collaborate again in the future.
Filmmaker Joel Coen curated a book of 70 photos by Lee Friedlander, one of the greatest living photographers, titled "Framed," which is the basis for two exhibitions. Coen was struck by Friedlander's unerring sense of composition and organized the book to draw attention to his compositional approaches. The two couples met during the pandemic shutdown and began spending more time together. Coen created a "flip book" for the exhibitions, a three-and-a-half-minute video of images arranged in an order that highlights Friedlander's strategies. Friedlander continues to photograph and print from his old negatives in a spacious darkroom he constructed in the basement of his house.
