"189 Decomposing Bodies Unearthed at Colorado Funeral Home Offering 'Green Burials'"
The remains of at least 189 people have been removed from a Colorado funeral home that offered "green burials" without embalming fluid, up from an initial estimate of about 115. The bodies were found in a decrepit building at the Return to Nature Funeral Home in Penrose, and authorities are still in the process of identifying the remains. The owners of the funeral home had financial and legal problems, including missed tax payments and unpaid bills, and attempts to reach them have been unsuccessful. Colorado has weak oversight of funeral homes, with no routine inspections or qualification requirements for operators.
