Google Wallet on Android is rolling out support for digital driver's licenses and other state IDs, starting with Maryland and expanding to Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia in the coming months. The feature uses the Identity Credential API, which landed in Android 11 in 2020, and allows users to store their IDs on their phones. However, police would need to be trained and equipped to accept digital IDs during traffic stops, and progress on digital ID programs varies across states.
