"2023 Pulitzer Prizes awarded for fiction, local reporting, and abortion coverage"
The Pulitzer Prize for fiction was awarded to two novels for the first time in the category's 105-year history. Barbara Kingsolver's "Demon Copperhead" and Hernan Diaz's "Trust" were recognized for their class-conscious themes. Other works with racial themes were also honored, including Beverly Gage's biography of J. Edgar Hoover and Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa's "His Name Is George Floyd: One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice." Sanaz Toossi's play "English" won for drama, and Hua Hsu's "Stay True" won for memoir or autobiography.
