Charges Filed Against Black Co-Captain and Riverboat Worker in Montgomery Riverfront Brawl
The city of Montgomery has charged Dameion Pickett, the Black co-captain of the Harriott II, with third-degree assault in connection with a riverfront brawl that occurred on August 9. Pickett had asked the operators of a private boat to move from its docked space, leading to a confrontation where he was punched and kicked by several white assailants. The charges against Pickett were filed on October 26, and he is scheduled to appear in court on November 21. The complainant in the case, Zachery Shipman, is also facing an assault charge.
