Massive Dehumidifier Recall: Over 3 Million Units Pose Fire and Burn Hazards
Over 1.5 million dehumidifiers from popular brands such as Kenmore and GE have been recalled due to fire hazards. The recall comes after reports of 23 fires, 688 incidents of overheating, and $168,000 in property damage. The affected models, manufactured by Gree in China between 2011 and 2014, were sold at various retailers across the United States. Consumers are advised to stop using the dehumidifiers, unplug them, and contact Gree for a refund. The recall follows a separate warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding Gree dehumidifiers, which have been associated with four deaths in house fires. Gree and its subsidiaries previously reached a $91 million resolution in 2021 for failing to notify the CPSC about defective dehumidifiers.
