"New Mexico Governor Defends Public Health Order's Impact on Gun Violence"
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham discussed the impact of her public health order aimed at limiting gun violence in the state. So far in September, there have been 502 arrests, 20 firearms seized, and 1300 traffic citations. Bookings at the detention center have increased, with over 50 per day, and more than a third of those arrested are still in custody. The Bernalillo County Sheriff highlighted the importance of multiple arrests in breaking criminal networks and praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies. The governor has created a website to track the progress of the emergency public health order initiative.
