Fairfax County police officers waited for more than 34 hours for a 29-year-old woman, who was armed with a handgun, to come out of her Jeep SUV on the side of Richmond Highway. Brittany A. Copelin was charged with two counts of abduction by force, two counts of felony firearm use and felony firearm possession in Fairfax, and two counts of kidnapping, home invasion, first-degree assault, third-degree burglary, false imprisonment, and other misdemeanor charges in Laurel, Md. Copelin placed the gun to her head several times throughout the incident, and negotiators communicated with her through a loudspeaker, over the phone, and by yelling, as they attempted to coax her out.

Fairfax Police Officer Fired for Fatal Shooting Outside Tysons Corner Center.

Fairfax County Police have fired one officer and placed another on modified restricted duty after the deadly shooting of Timothy Johnson, who was alleged to have stolen a pair of sunglasses from a Nordstrom store at Tysons Corner Center in February. Body cam footage of the incident was released, which Johnson's family's lawyer called "an execution." Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano is conducting an independent investigation and expects to make a decision on how to proceed in the coming weeks.
