Bronx Building Collapse Exposes Alarming Safety Violations
A Bronx apartment building that partially collapsed had been flagged for over 100 building violations, according to city records. Residents had complained about strange odors, elevator outages, and a general sense that the building was not structurally sound. The building had no open structural violations, but seven violations were open. Firefighters found no victims in the debris and two people sustained minor injuries. The building is owned by 1915 Realty LLC, and the cause of the collapse is under investigation. The Red Cross and the city are working to find temporary housing for over 100 displaced residents.
