Nicaragua's Easter Celebrations Limited by Government Restrictions.

Roman Catholics in Nicaragua have been limited to holding Easter celebrations on church grounds or inside churches due to a ban on public demonstrations by the government. Relations between the government and the church have deteriorated, with a bishop sentenced to 26 years in prison and a Panamanian parish priest expelled for allegedly attempting to hold a procession. President Daniel Ortega has banned all opposition demonstrations and restricted Catholic activities, accusing Catholic figures sympathetic to the opposition of being "terrorists."
