Myanmar's military junta has announced mandatory military service for all young men and women, with men aged 18-35 and women aged 18-27 required to serve for up to two years. Specialists like doctors up to 45 years old must serve for three years. The service can be extended to five years in the ongoing state of emergency. This move comes as the junta struggles to contain armed rebel forces fighting for greater autonomy in various parts of the country, marking the biggest challenge the military has faced since seizing power in 2021.
