Indian police suspected a pigeon of being a Chinese spy due to its capture near a Mumbai port with what appeared to be Chinese words on its rings. After eight months' detention, it was determined that the pigeon was actually an open-water racing bird from Taiwan that had escaped and made its way to India. The bird was released into the wild after being transferred to an animal hospital and then to an animal welfare organization.
