Holocaust Remembrance Day: Continuing the Fight Against Anti-Semitism

Survivors of Nazi death camps marked the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau with a modest ceremony in Poland, laying wreaths and lighting candles at the Death Wall and the monument in Birkenau. Observances were also held in other countries, with leaders emphasizing the importance of remembering the Holocaust and fighting antisemitism. In Italy, commemorations included a torchlit procession, while in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jews and Muslims gathered to promote compassion and dialogue. The international commemoration day, created by the United Nations in 2005, aims to ensure the world remembers the Holocaust long after the survivors are gone.
