Record-Breaking Rainfall Devastates North India, Leaving Death and Destruction in its Wake

The heaviest two-day rainfall in July in at least 41 years has caused chaos in Delhi-NCR, resulting in six deaths and widespread disruption. Safdarjung, the capital's base station, recorded 153mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest single-day rainfall for July since 1982. The region experienced waterlogged roads, flooded homes, house collapses, road cave-ins, and uprooted trees. The rainfall in just 36 hours was 32% higher than the normal for the entire month of July. Several incidents of house collapses, wall collapses, and uprooting of trees were reported, leading to casualties. Gurgaon also witnessed two drowning deaths. Large parts of Delhi remained submerged, despite claims of preparedness by authorities.
