"Greece Implements Visitor Limits at Acropolis to Combat Overtourism"

Greece has implemented a trial system to limit the number of daily visitors to the Athens Acropolis archaeological site, capping it at 20,000 a day. The new booking website will enforce an hourly slot system to manage footfall and alleviate overcrowding. The goal is to ensure the safety and preservation of the monument, which attracts up to 23,000 visitors daily. The system will likely be formally enforced from April 2024 and will also apply to other Greek archaeological sites that use electronic tickets.
