Paris Bans Rental E-Scooters by Popular Vote

Paris has become the only European capital to ban shared e-scooters after 89% of registered Parisian voters voted in favor of the ban. The streets of Paris will be cleared from shared e-scooters by September 1, the date by which the contract expires which currently allows three companies to each operate 5,000 e-scooters in Paris. The scooters caused security concerns, environmental impact, and littered sidewalks. The referendum was criticized for its low turnout and controversial methods used by e-scooter operators.
