Terrorist attacks leave death and destruction in Mogadishu hotels.

Al-Shabaab militants attacked Pearl Beach Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, killing six civilians and wounding ten others. The six-hour siege ended after a shootout between security forces and the militants. The attack is part of a 15-year-long Islamist insurgency against Somalia's federal government, which often targets hotels with high-ranking Somali and foreign officials. Al-Shabaab, which is linked to Al Qaeda, still controls large swathes of countryside and continues to carry out attacks against security and civilian targets, including in the capital.
