Vietnam Implements Social Media User Identity Verification

Vietnam is set to require social media users on both local and foreign platforms to verify their identity as part of the Telecommunications Law Amendment, in an effort to combat online scams and enable law enforcement agencies to track down offenders. The regulation will apply to both individual and organisational users, but not all providers currently offer identity verification in Vietnam. The measure will need the approval of the country's lawmakers and is part of a wider effort to battle disinformation and force foreign tech firms to establish representative offices in Vietnam and store data in the country.
