Russian Disinformation Campaign Exploits Celebrities in Cyber Attacks

Russian actors have manipulated Cameo videos featuring celebrities like Elijah Wood and Mike Tyson to appear as if they are criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Microsoft research. The altered videos were shared on social media and reported on by Russian government-owned or controlled outlets. The videos often show the celebrities talking to "Vladimir" and suggesting he seek help for substance abuse, but are edited to make it seem like they are addressing Zelensky. This tactic is part of Russia's evolving disinformation efforts, which now include using popular video platforms. Cameo has stated that such videos violate their community guidelines and will be removed.
