"Can You Spot the Robot-Written Handwriting? AI Mimics Human Penmanship"

Scientists have developed an AI, called HWT, that can imitate human handwriting almost indistinguishably, raising concerns about potential fraud and fake documents. The AI was trained using handwriting samples from six different human writers and was preferred over other existing handwriting generation technologies by 81% of participants in a study. Unlike previous approaches using generative adversarial networks (GANs), the researchers used vision transformers to capture individual handwriting characteristics. The AI-created handwritten text could benefit people with disabilities and improve machine learning models' ability to process handwritten script. However, there are concerns about potential fraudulent use of this technology.
