Betty Kwan Chinn: A 'Great Immigrant' Recognized by Carnegie Corporation

Betty Kwan Chinn, a beloved local philanthropist in Humboldt, has been honored as one of the Carnegie Corporation of New York's 'Great Immigrants' of 2023. Chinn, who has dedicated over 40 years to helping the homeless population, expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition. The annual list celebrates naturalized citizens whose contributions have enriched society. Chinn joins a group of 35 individuals, including notable figures such as Pedro Pascal, Alanis Morissette, and Ke Huy Quan. Despite the challenges she faces in receiving acclaim, Chinn appreciates that the recognition inspires others and helps raise funds for her work at the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center.
