Zoo Hires Humans to Scare Seagulls Away

Blackpool Zoo in England has hired five humans to dress in inflatable bird costumes and scare off seagulls that have been harassing visitors and zoo birds. The zoo received nearly 200 applications for the "Seagull Deterrents" job, which pays roughly $13.50 an hour and is seasonal. Other efforts to deter the seagulls, including statues and balloons shaped like eagles and owls, have failed. The zoo hopes the seagulls will be deterred by the unfamiliar costume and the sound it makes when the person is moving.
