Shocking video footage from the White Island volcano eruption in December 2019 shows cruise ship tourists fleeing for their lives as the volcano erupts. The majority of the victims were passengers on board the Ovation of the Seas cruise ship who were part of a tour group visiting the island. The video captures the moment when the group of tourists and guides, initially in awe of the steam emerging from the crater, quickly realize the seriousness of the situation and start running for safety. Only three out of the 25 people on the island survived the eruption. The trial is underway, with the owners of the island and their company facing charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
