Tita Cahyani, a survivor of the recent eruption of Indonesia's Mount Marapi volcano, has vowed to never hike again after narrowly escaping the deadly incident. The eruption, which killed 23 climbers, was the volcano's third this year and the deadliest since 1979. Cahyani and her friend took shelter behind a rock as the ground shook and the air filled with sulphurous fumes. Despite suffering extensive burns, they were among the 52 survivors. Cahyani's harrowing experience has led her to decide that this was her first and last hiking trip.
