Hong Kong and Shenzhen experienced the heaviest rain on record, causing severe flooding, two deaths, and over 100 injuries. The torrential rain was brought by Typhoon Haikui, which weakened to a tropical depression but still dumped large amounts of precipitation on already soaked areas. Hong Kong issued its highest rainstorm warning, leading to school closures, transport disruptions, and the closure of the stock exchange. Shenzhen, a major tech hub, also faced chaos with business and transport links severely affected. The extreme weather is expected to continue in Guangdong province, with heavy rain causing further disruptions.
